Grateful for You

November, 2023

During this season of Thanksgiving, we are grateful for you. Thanks to our incredible supporters, our 13th Annual Candy & Snack Drive was a huge success. Boxes of items from our on-line Wish List flooded the Foundation.

In 2020, due to COVID-19, Mattie Miracle migrated away from a live Candy & Snack drive to an all-virtual format. This was a difficult decision, especially since our Fall Drive had great community energy, spirit, and participation. We were concerned that the virtual format would greatly impact the success of the Drive. However, we have learned never to underestimate your loyalty and generosity.

All donated items will help to stock our four Snack & Item Carts at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital (Washington, DC), Children's Hospital at Sinai (Baltimore, MD), and the NIH Clinical Center (Bethesda, MD). Our supporters clearly understand how vital our Snack & Item Carts are to the 3,000 families we serve annually who are caring for children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. Thank you for making these miracles possible.

April Item Drive -- We Need Your Help!

In honor of Mattie's 21th birthday, we will be hosting our 12th annual item drive.  All donated toiletries stock our Mattie Miracle Free Snack & Item Carts for in-patient pediatric families at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital (Washington, DC), Children’s Hospital at Sinai (Baltimore, MD), and the Clinical Center at the National Institutes of Health (Bethesda, MD). When living in a hospital 24 hours a day, seven days a week and caring for a child who is battling cancer, receiving these items can feel like a gift. Families often rush to the hospital when their children are ill and are unable to pack basic items that are needed for daily care. The carts fulfill these needs.

You can participate in our item drive from anywhere in the USA.  Please view our Amazon wish list below, and help us keep our Mattie Miracle Carts stocked to support families caring for children with cancer.  Our Carts service around 2, 500 families a year.  We ask that all items be received by

April 10, 2023.

NOTE: The Amazon Wish List is a gift registry. Therefore, your items will be sent to the Foundation's registry address. This address is in Virginia and belongs to Mattie Miracle's President, Victoria Sardi-Brown.

12th Annual Candy & Item Drive (Virtual)

November 2022

Mattie Miracle is requesting your help! Please donate candy and other snack items, so that we can continue to stock our free Snack and Item Carts at hospitals. These four Carts are considered a life saver by families who are caring for a child with cancer or other life threatening illness and are unable to leave the child's bedside to get their own basic needs met. Our Carts service 2, 500 families a year.

After a decade of successful LIVE Candy Drives, we have made the difficult decision to transition to an all virtual event. Hospitals have requested that candy remain in its vacuum sealed bags, with its manufacturer's expiration date. Therefore, the safest way to meet these requirements is to use an Amazon Item Wish List.

Now you can participate in our Candy and Item drive from anywhere in the USA. Please view our Amazon wish list below,  We ask that all items be received by November 14, 2022.

NOTE: The Amazon Wish List is a gift registry. Therefore, your items will be sent to the Foundation's registry address. This address is in Oakton, VA and belongs to Mattie Miracle's President, Victoria Sardi-Brown.

Teens Making a Difference

February 25, 2022

Mattie Miracle is grateful to have the support of teenagers who stand or SKATE behind our mission, to meet the psychosocial needs of children with cancer and their families. Susan Rotherham is a sophomore at Meridian High School in Falls Church, VA and has selected Mattie Miracle for her community service project. Susan is an ice hockey player at her school and is combining her passion for skating with raising funds for childhood cancer.

Susan shared this reflection with us:

Childhood cancer matters to me. My father does the Pan-Mass Challenge, a 192-mile bike ride to raise funds for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. My dad is a 10-year rider and has raised more than $200,000 for Dana-Farber, where his dad was treated. I have gone with my dad to this ride most years and among the things I hear about are stories of parents who have lost their children to cancer.

Their stories have always touched me. When learning about the graduation requirement at my school to do a personal community project, I wanted to focus on something I cared about. After learning about the Mattie Miracle Cancer Foundation and its mission and work, I knew this was a good fit. I want to fundraise in a way that is unique to me, and as an ice hockey player I can't think of a better way than hosting an open skate event.

Come Skate with Us!

Event: Ice Skate Against Childhood Cancer
Date: Friday, February 25, 2022
Time: 7:30pm to 9:30pm
Location: Skatequest (1800 Michael Faraday Ct, Reston, VA 20190) Admission fee: $15 (100% of proceeds go to the Foundation)

10th Annual Candy Drive -- GONE VIRTUAL!

MUST RECEIVE CANDY BY: Sunday, November 8, 2020

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our Annual Candy Drive will be held virtually this year! We are grateful to our amazing community, who contributed 18,000 pounds of candy to Mattie Miracle in 2019.

We are requesting donations of candy in its original store bought vacuum sealed bags. Opened bags of candy will NOT be accepted this year. Therefore, PLEASE DO NOT SORT THE CANDY!

To make donations easier, we have created an Amazon Wish List. Click on the link below to check out our list. All items should be sent to the "Ali Goldwater Gift Registry" address. In addition, once you add items to your shopping cart, you can change the quantity of items ordered in that cart.

We are also accepting candy (in its original store bought vacuum sealed bags) drop offs in Arlington, VA.

Drop off dates and times:

Sunday, November 1 (10am to 4pm)

Monday, November 2 (10am to 4pm)

Tuesday, November 3 (10am to 4pm)

Thursday, November 5 (10am to 4pm)

Friday, November 6 (10am to 4pm)

Candy is highly sought after and considered almost a necessity to help families manage through the long hours of caregiving.
